Severe Weather Awareness Week

This week is "Severe Weather Awareness Week", and it is the perfect time to prepare or review your hazardous weather plans. Most Floridians have learned to be prepared for the June to November hurricane season. However, the recent increase in tornadoes - some of which included hail, have caused considerable damage in the Panhandle and South Florida; and have shown us we must always be on guard and fully prepared to face any potential disaster we may face year-round, including Severe Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, Lightning, and Flood Threats.

There are many ways your family can prepare for severe weather, in addition to stocking up on bottled water and non-perishable food items. One of which is to put an evacuation plan in place and ensure all important documents, including copies of your insurance policies and contact numbers for your insurance agents, are protected and accessible to you.

Stay informed when severe weather may be approaching your location by visiting the National Weather Service and entering your city or ZIP code. To access information applicable to your particular county, visit the County Emergency Management websites. You may also contact the Storm Hotline at 1-800-227-8676. As summer approaches and you make family travel plans, check the weather along your route using a Road Trip Planner or Flight Tracker on AccuWeather.com. Enjoy peace of mind knowing you and your family are prepared for anything!
